More Nigerian Students Refuse To Study In UK

According to a recent research, Nigerian students are declining to continue their undergraduate education in the UK.

More than any other nation during the reviewed period, official records show that the number of Nigerian applicants to study in the UK for graduate and postgraduate degrees has dropped by an astounding 46%.

The UK Universities and College Admissions Service (UCAS) has reported that the decline in applications from Nigerian students is thought to be directly related to the depreciation of the naira and the limitations on their ability to enter the UK with dependents or close family members due to visa restrictions.

According to the research, as of September 2023, Nigerian students had the greatest number of dependents brought in by international students.

More than any other country, Nigeria had a substantial fall in applications, with a total of 1,590 applications, down 46%.

There was a 1% decrease in UK applications compared to the previous year, according to data from the UK Universities and College Admissions Service (UCAS) on undergraduate student applicants for the 2024–25 academic year.

The entire application pool is still far higher than it was prior to the pandemic, though.
