A Ghanaian-Canadian basketball player, Charles Bediako, has landed his first professional contract from the National Basketball Association (NBA) after signing with the San Antonio Spurs.
The 21-year-old put pen to paper on his new deal earlier this month, on October 2nd 2023.
Bediako’s achievement was trumpeted in Ghana by the Ghana Basketball Association.
Taking to Twitter, they hailed the young man.

Charles A. Bediako Jr. (born March 10, 2002) is a Ghanaian-Canadian professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He played college basketball for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Despite being born and raised in Canada, Bediako is of Ghanaian descent.
Bediako was a consensus four-star recruit and one of the top centers in the 2021 class.
On April 6, 2021, he committed to playing college basketball for Alabama over offers from Duke, Michigan, Texas and Ohio State.
After going undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft, Bediako joined the San Antonio Spurs for the 2023 NBA Summer League and on October 2, 2023, signed a professional contract.
The Ghanaian basketball centre stands at a height of 6ft 11in or 211cm, weighing 220 lb or 100kg.
