Amarnath Ghosh was an Indian classical dancer who has been shot dead in St Louis, Missouri in the United States where he was studying for his PhD in Performing Arts.

Indian writer founder of Ayodhya Foundation Meenakshi Sharan revealed Amarnath Ghosh was sadly shot dead on Tuesday, February 27th 2024.

Amarnath Ghosh was an Indian classical dancer and graduate student who was shot and killed whilst studying in the United States.

Indian writer and founder of Ayodhya Foundation, Meenakshi Sharan took to X Friday, March 1st to break the sad news and call for justice for Amarnath Ghosh.

He wrote: “Kuchipudi dancer par excellence, #AmarnathGhosh shot dead in St. Louis, Missouri! Please help @IndianEmbassyUS @DrSJaishankar 🙏🏻

“Amarnath was shot multiple times while he was taking an evening walk in the St Louis academy neigbourhood on Tuesday, 27th February 2024.

“The only child in the family, lost his father at a very young age, lost his mother 3 years back, was perusing his PHD in the US.

“One we are aghast with this news & are getting no details, no updates, even his body hasn’t been handed over to friends who’ve been trying to claim it! @USAndIndia,”

Ghosh hailed from Siuri, West Bengal, India. He studied at Kuchipudi Art Academy and was the founder of MAHAAMRITENDRA.

Amarnath Ghosh was studying at the Washington University in St Louis for his PhD in Performing Arts according to his profile on the University website.

The profile read: “Amarnath Ghosh Is interested in exploring his diverse ethnic background, race and the diverse unity of various cultures through the compositions of Sri Rabindranath Tagore one of the most revolutionary bengali poets and philosopher of all time.

“As a native bengali his research focuses on bringing out the concept of race and ethnicity through the art of Dance. In his research he is choosing to focus on 6 different compositions of Sri Tagore which emphasize the concept of race and ethnicity through the diverse unification of many aspects from different cultures that Tagore gained through his worldly travels.

“Through his research amarnaths main aim is to show that through dance even though we are from different diverse backgrounds its exactly that Unites us all as one,”

Tragically, this budding talent was killed in mysterious fashion whilst walking the streets of St Louis.

Posts on social media showed he was loved and respected for his talents.

“Devastated to hear of Amarnath Ghosh. A rising star who shined so bright, he blinded the world with his passion. A student of the Academy and a dear member of our family, Amar (dada, anna), you shall always remain amar (immortal) in our hearts. The artist fraternity deeply mourns this day,” one post on Facebook read.

Another said: “Beautiful artist Dear Amarnath Ghosh our Gurubhai our sibling from Kalakshetra leaves the mortal world so untimely! Somebody’s anger took away life of precious artist so unceremoniously from the world!  Heart bleeds! Not at all the age or the way for you to leave Amarnath!”
